The APW expander mandrel allows for smoothing and gently opening the case neck , thus ensuring consistent neck tension . This method has proven to be the simplest and most effective approach for significantly reducing ES (extreme deviation) and SD (standard deviation) values .
 
 Commercial die manufacturers often do not use a precise standard for the size of the expanding ball in their resizing tools. This variation necessitates setting the correct inside diameter of the case neck before seating the bullet .
 
 That is why we recommend completely removing the expander ball from your recalibrating tool.
 
 The final step before adding the powder is to expand your necks using the appropriate mandrel. When using mandrels, we recommend applying a small amount of Imperial lubricant : a thin layer is more than sufficient.
 We use a single-station press to expand the neck during the ram's descent, then we place the cases, now ready to receive the primer and powder , into our APW reloading trays .
 
 The tool body is compatible with your standard press , and the interchangeable chucks are precision calibrated.
 

 
 The kit includes mandrels that provide 0.001” or 0.002” neck tension , plus a storage base to keep everything organized when the mandrels are not in use.
